Cows Loose In Gribley Town?!?

by Clifford Head

Residents of Butterchurn Lane on the outskirts of Gribley had quite the a-moo-sing diversion last Sunday morning when two cows from the nearby Grinton Dairy left their paddock through an open gate and started roaming the street. The two Holstein-cross cows, both weighing upwards of 350kg, trampled several fences and hedges before settling in the garden of one Doreen Dordon (61) to graze on her prized rose bushes.

“A-moo-sing?! I don’t find anything amusing about this at all,” said Dordon. “Twenty years I’ve been growing those roses. Some of em’ were prize-winners! And now look at em’, all covered in cow mess. I’m fuming!”

The cows were finally apprehended and loaded onto a trailer after a two-hour stand-off between several farmhands and the animals, during which time Dordon’s garden was rendered “a total write-off.” A whip-round amongst the Gribley Gardening and Crosswords club has furnished Dordon with a £20 voucher to the Shoots and Leaves garden centre, though this is not enough to repair the estimated £104 worth of damage.

Grinton Dairy is interested in hearing from anyone who may have information as to who left the gate open. They are reportedly “not angry, just disappointed.”

Hmmm… A vexing story. There seems to be something particularly rebellious about this current generation of animals. Many such cases, I’m afraid.

Just that I appear not to be the only one with animal nemeses. Let’s just hope these two cows aren’t as SPITEFUL and POWER-HUNGRY as a particular feline that I don’t care to name.
