Les Aid Two: This Time It's On Purpose
by Clifford Head
This month marks a year since something truly remarkable happened in Gribley. After donating all of his money to ailing donkey charity One Good Hoof, local character Lesley found himself unable to afford prescription medication for his "rotty leg" condition. Not wanting to see the kindly man suffer, the town of Gribley came together to create Les Aid, a festival to raise money for Les's medication.
The small festival was inadvertently advertised on several LGBTQ Facebook groups, misinterpreting its title (interpreting Les as refering to lesbians) and the time of its happening (the month of June being the time of mid-year queer cheer) as the signs of a pride parade.
When the day came, organisers who had been expecting just a couple dozen attendees were surprised to find the event overrun with colourful revelers, bringing plenty of business and vibrance to our small town. The charitable donations were not only enough to pay for Les's course of medication in full, but also raised fifty pounds for the music room of Gribley Junior School. "The bongo extravaganza was good," said visiting lesbian Mandy, "but you guys could really do with some other instruments as well."
Though I have it on good authority that Les's leg is no longer "rotty," a second Les Aid event has been planned for later this month, this time with the pride elements at centre stage. The Ron's Buns burger van will be serving special burgers with "rainbow sauce," and all proceeds from the Les Aid jumble sale will be donated to a charity that aids queer youth all across the greater Grinton area. Additionally, Muffin; a usually white donkey living at One Good Hoof; will be dyed pink using an animal safe beetroot-based dye, and will be giving out "pink pony rides" down Gribley high street, the proceeds of which will fund future Les Aid events.
"I'm very excited," says the main man himself. "Though the results of the online 'am I gay?' quiz I took were inconclusive, I am very happy to be an ally to the LGBTQ community. In honour of Les Aid 2 I will be making special free sandwiches containing lettuce, grapes, butter, tomato, and quiche, and I will be wearing a special rainbow hat."

Very happy to hear that Les Aid is happening again, but is the Muffin the donkey thing safe? Wasn't she the one who kicked the volunteer in the head over the "donkey pants" thing before Christmas?

It was Miffy who kicked the volunteer in the head. Muffin is usually pretty well-behaved. We've dyed her pink before when we do the unicorn birthday parties for kids, where we also stick an empty ice cream cone on her head. She's a good sport as long as she gets lots of oat treats, though she does sometimes lick the beetroot juice off in places, and might be a bit patchy by day's end.
